Announcing our Upcoming Feature on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid

Dear TMS Community,

I think it is safe to say that it can be a struggle trying to describe exactly what mast cell diseases are. It certainly can’t be done in a few words, and since every person’s experience is different, even a “long” version of the mast cell disease story won’t be a comprehensive presentation. At TMS, since education is our key goal, providing a useful overview of the mast cell story has always been a challenge. So, when an opportunity came to us last year, we listened and took action.   

The TMS Team is proud and excited to share some fabulous news. We have been working with a production company to develop both a short-form documentary and a 30 second explainer video to help introduce people to mast cell diseases.  The 30 second video (which you can see below), will air (starting in May) as a commercial on cable TV stations nationwide and is designed to spark awareness, conversation, and action. The longer, short-form documentary will air as a feature on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid on public television stations across the country.

Education spreads fastest when it’s personal—and your voice makes all the difference. As we are preparing to share this project with the world, I encourage all of you to do the same. Please forward the link to whomever you believe should hear about mast cell diseases.  Whether someone is a medical professional unfamiliar with these conditions or a dear friend or family member trying to understand what a loved one is going through, these videos will offer an entry point for discussion.   

We also ask if you happen to see our mini doc or commercial on TV as you are watching, drop us an email or post the when/where on the TMS Facebook page. We want to hear about all the sightings!

I’d like to thank the TMS team (with a big special shout out to Drs. Castells and Maitland and Steve Bashore) for all the work that went into this project. I truly believe this is just the beginning of a new chapter in our outreach and in making the world aware of the challenges that mast cell diseases bring.
