  Research: Anaphylaxis

AAAAI Anaphylaxis Emergency Action Plan [PDF]

"A life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can cause shock, a sudden drop in blood pressure and trouble
breathing. In people who have an allergy, anaphylaxis can occur minutes after exposure to a specific allergy-
causing substance (allergen). In some cases, there may be a delayed reaction or anaphylaxis may occur without
  an apparent trigger."

Mayo Clinic. 2010.
Anaphylaxis: First Aid. Retrieved August 14, 2010 at www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid-anaphylaxis/FA00003.

“Spring has arrived, and with it comes heightened allergy and asthma concerns for many. And while for most
people these conditions may be mildly uncomfortable, for others, especially those who may be at risk for
anaphylaxis – a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction involving multiple bodily systems – spring may also be a
time to exercise caution and restraint.”

American College of Emergency Physicians Foundation. 2010.

“Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening, multisystemic allergic reaction that is triggered by common substances,
such as foods, insect stings, medications and latex.”
